What it tells you
Enter any IPv4, IPv6 or hostname and NetSight resolves a complete picture in one round-trip: geolocation (city, region, country), carrier (ISP and ASN), reverse DNS, timezone and a set of reputation signals.
- Geolocation: city and country from IP geolocation databases, with confidence hints for mobile CGNAT ranges.
- Network: autonomous system (ASN), organization name, subnet CIDR.
- Reputation: abuse-confidence and fraud-score signals from external reputation sources.
- Presence: exposure fingerprint if the address hosts reachable public services.
- Classification: private, loopback, multicast, reserved, cloud/VPS provider recognition (DigitalOcean, Vultr, Linode, OVH, Contabo and others).
How it works
Queries run at the edge. Public answers are cached for 30 minutes so repeat lookups cost nothing and are fast. No query is attached to your account: there is no account.
For third-party reputation and exposure signals the query is forwarded to the respective external provider and may be logged under their policies.
When it's useful
- Understanding where a visitor or attacker came from when reviewing server logs.
- Verifying your outbound egress IP after changing a VPN, tunnel or home router.
- Evaluating a suspicious IP before whitelisting or blocking it in a firewall rule.
- Investigating a phishing email's origin server by its IP.
Questions
Is the geolocation accurate?
IP geolocation is accurate to city level for datacenter and residential ISPs. Mobile carriers often use CGNAT, which means the reported location may be the carrier's regional gateway, not the subscriber.
Can I look up IPv6?
Yes. Both IPv4 and IPv6 are supported. Reverse DNS, geolocation and reputation all work for v6.
Why does the reputation show zero for my home IP?
Most residential IPs have no abuse reports because they are not exposed to the open internet. A zero score is the expected healthy baseline.
Does NetSight log the IPs I search?
Lookups are cached for 30 minutes for performance. We do not keep a long-term log tied to you.
